A woman is facing murder charges for a crash she allegedly caused in Bucks County. The Sept. 23 report states that the woman now faces a third-degree murder charge for driving while she was under the influence of drugs. The 30-year-old woman is accused of causing the fatal crash that took the life of a 21-year-old man and seriously injured his girlfriend.

The crash, which took place on Aug. 30 on Route 611, happened when the woman’s vehicle crossed the center line and hit the couple’s Saturn head-on. The police state that the woman had several prescription medications in her system that included fentanyl, oxycodone and amphetamine. She was also driving with a suspended license.

The woman faces third-degree murder charges in this case because she has been convicted of DUIs two times in the past. Since this is a third offense, it’s being taken more seriously. She was still granted an occupational limited license to go to and from work previously, but that doesn’t apply to this case since it was shown she was heading back from shopping at the local mall.

The woman’s parents claim she takes these prescriptions as a result of being Lyme-positive. Despite that, driving while impaired, even when taking a prescription medication, isn’t legal. It’s the responsibility of a driver to know that he or she is going to be safe behind the wheel. She faces additional charges including homicide by vehicle while DUI and aggravated assault. The woman who did survive the collision suffered a fractured skull, broken bones and brain trauma that she may have to live with forever.
